As the news of more women being found dead throughout the country, Umdoni Municipality held a march and prayer against the ongoing Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.

Recently held in Umzinto, Umdoni Municipality brought together residents, faith-based organisations, youth, men and women in a united stand against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).

The march started at the Shell Garage and ended at the Umzinto Town Hall.

During the programme, Pastor Oliphant delivered a sermon before the emotional candlelight ceremony in memory of those who have lost their lives to GBV and those who continue to live under abuse.

Umdoni Municipality mayor, Mbali Cele-Luthuli said:  “As we gather in prayer today, let us remember that prayer must inspire action.”

Cele-Luthuli urged men and boys to take a stand against abuse, calling on them to be protectors of their families and communities and also to speak out when women and children are harmed.
